The four days last year were allotted to the Tlunket Society, the Returned Soldiers' Association's Poppy Day, the Auckland Orphanage Advisory Council, and St. John Ambulance Association. A special meeting of the Puhlic Safety Committee wIII be held to.discuss allocation of days, and the committee will then report to the Auckland City Council. At the meeting this morning. Mr. P. E. Langstone, on behalf of St. John Ambulance Association, said that the continuation of the services by the association depended on the annual street collection, and support given by the public. Mons'ignor H. F. Holbrook said that the Auckland Orphanages Advisory Council controlled 14 homes, with over 700 children, and the small amount of contributions was not enough to maintain them. There were no distinctions, and all worked together. He added that appeals for patriotic purposes had first call, but he considered that, after that, the orphans came next. Mr. H. Wylie, representing the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, pointed out that a large amount of patriotic funds would be needed in the metropolitan area this 3"ear.
