MILK IN BOTTLES
WOMEN'S FOOD LEAGUE
The recent decision of the Metropolitan Milk Council authorising roundsmen to seek the co-operation of customers in the inauguration of a front gate delivery was referred to in a statement issued by the New Zealand Women's Food Value League. The desirability of pasteurising and bottling milk for delivery to householders was emphasised. Qualified agreement with the council's resolution was expressed. The league said it did not wish to be obstructive in any measure to relieve existing conditions, but it did not support any obligatory clause regarding front gate delivery. There were dangers of contamination from the suggested delivery system and the claim was made that the only safe way to deliver milk was by pasteurising and bottling. The league asserted that the problem of bottle supply could be solved in a few months. There would be a slight rise in price for those previously purchasing loose milk. The coupon system of buying milk would do much to save delay in collecting money and bad debts would be avoided.
