HOME GUARD CAPTAIN

SIR WALTER LAWRENCE SCOTT Announcement is made of the appointment of Sir Walter Lawrence Scott to the temporary rank of captain and to the post of assistant group adjutant of the Nelson Home Guzird group. Sir Walter was born at Rangiora in 1880 and was educated at Christ's College and Canterbury University College, where he took his Master of Arts degree in 1901, and his Bachelor of Science degree a year later. In 1903 he entered the Indian Civil Service, and for his distinguished service In a magisterial and administrative capacity in India he was knighted. Upon his retirement in 1939 he returned to New Zealand and settled in Nelson.
