EVELYN FIRTH HOME
POSSIBLE RE-OPENING
SUBJECT OF NEGOTIATIONS
(0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Negotiations are in hand, stated an official of the Pensions Department, Wellington, this morning for the re-opening of the Evelyn Firth Home, Parnell, for the benefit of exservicemen of the present war it was hoped that these would be satisfactorily completed. The home was closed yesterday after being used by ex-servicemen for the past'2l years. Arrangements have been made by the Pensions Department for the housing of the' three patients who remained m the home at the time of its closing. The staff departed on Saturday, with the exception of the matron, Miss R. Brayshaw, and one sister, who are remaining in residence for the present Of the last three patients in the home, one, Mr. C. W. Robinson, was an inmate from the opening dav in 1920. It has been made clear that the military convalescent homo which is to be built at Bombay is intended solely for soldiers requiring treatment to fit them for service, and not for discharged ex-servicemen.
