DELAY OVER WATER SUPPLY N ECESSITY FOB HOSPITAL ' The Devonport Borough Council i decided last night to make further ( representations to the Auckland Bospital Board as to the necessity for a general hospital on the North Shore Reporting on the question of water , supply the Mayor, Mr. R. G. Mai, said that at present there did not • seem any chance of Devonport h>h» ; provided with city water before the i end of January at least. It had pra» viously been expected that city water would be available by Christmas, bat i in view of the shortage of necessary materials this would not be possible. Mr. May added that the quality of , the water from Pupuke'haid i improved, and no complaints had. • been received during the past month. . The level of the lake had risen 14- ! inches, which represents an increase [ of G0.000.000 gallons in the volume of the water. 5 The Mayor commended the Devonport patriotic organisations for the ; fine work they were doing and i specially mentioned the barrel effon. ' During the last six \Veeks appro&i- , mately £300 had been deposited in U's barrel on the wharf. Mr. Mav also , referred to the efforts of the Devonport Progressive Association, which had raised nearly £400 in the past six months. To date presentations > had been to 140 men of the i borough before they left on active • service with the different brandies of the forces.
