An important agreement was signed yesterday between settlers at the lower end of the Hauraki Plains i and the West Drainage Board, whereby the settlers whose farms would not directly benefit from the erection of a new stopbank between ->iroa and V.'aitakaruru agreed to contribute a shilling per acre fir five years. I The chairmar of the board, Mr. C. W. Parfitt, explained the scheme, which will provide protection from flooding for 6000 acres of rich farm land. The stopbank will be 10 feet high. 1 It is estimated that it will take five or six years to complete the work.
