NATIVE BUSH

STATE SUBSIDY ENSURED An offer by the Government of a subsidy of £800 for the purchase of Smith's Bush, Takapuna, as a public reserve, has been ensured by the action of the owners of the property in fixing the price at £2000, it was reported at a meeting of the committee for the preservation of the bush yesterday afternoon. The Government offer was made following an inspection of the property by the acting-Minister in charge of Scenery Preservation, Mr. Barclay, and was conditional on the purchase price not exceeding the Government valuation of £2000. Finality of the purchase agreement is required before the end of next March and payment could be spread over several vears. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, was present at the meeting and is making arrangements for a meeting of mayors and chairmen of local bodies to discuss proposals for raising funds for the purchase of the bush.
