LEAVE OF ABSENCE
MISS ELSIE BENNET WORK IN MIDDLE EAST At the urgent request of the British Y.W.C.A. and also of the world's general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., Miss R. Woodsmall, and Miss Jean Begg, Miss Elsie Bennet is being granted leave of absence by the Auckland Association for a period of service in the Middle East with Miss Begg, where the Y.W.C.A. work is administered under the British Y.W.C.A.
Miss Bennet has been general secretary of the Auckland Y.W.C.A. for the last six years, and previous to that was in Melbourne as associate general secretary, and before that had experience in various parts of Australia, including Sydney.
Two years prior to coming to New Zealand, Miss Bennet spent a special period of training at the Y.W.C.A. training college, Selly Oak, the international training centre in England. Following that she was for some months at the World's Office in Geneva for the purpose of training and attending international conferences. She attended the last disarmament conference held in 1933, and also the International Labour Conference as an observer.
With a view to experiencing another angle of Y.W.C.A. activities, Miss Bennet also spent some time at the head office in U.S.A. in New York, and attended several of the conferences on the East Coast and also in the Middle West.
