Wanganui Prospects For Feilding Races
(Special.) WAXGANTUT. Monday. Taurangi had a recurrence of her old trouble on Saturday and D. T. Marks was doubtful about her prospects of racing at Feilding. On previous occasions the Beau Pere mare has made a quick recovery and she may do so again. If not she will be retired. Other members of the Fordell team in Red Cat and Lovechase were galloped, the former running five furlongs in 1.4£ and the half-sister to Sternchase covering half a mile in 53 4-ss. both going comfortably. Red Cat is to run in the Kiwitea Handicap, seven furlongs, on Saturday at Feilding, and should give a good account of herself, while Lovechase will contest the Novice Stakes on the second day. Tuatara lightened up after his trip to Riccarton, and will not be seen out at Feilding.
I Poutu went off his feed after winning at Stratford, but the Posterity gelding is all right again, and moved freelv in running half a mile on Saturday in 52 4-os. Greek Anthos and Dynasty were companions in a run over six furlongs, which they left behind in 1.20. the former goin~ particularly well. Greek Anthos will be a starter the second day at Feilding, while Dynasty is to contest the Manchester Handicap. The latter is very fit and is not without prospects. The Wanton and Pillory were associated over thr«e furlongs, the former hav"lß a ®*? ade the better of it, the time being 2 s- ~il llo ry is coming on nicely and should be in good fettle for the Christmas campaign. The Defoe mare is to accompany Greek Anthos and Val Pere (the latest additions to H. W. Scally's team) to Waipukurau and Hastings at Christmas. Lord Cavendish has rounded up well and looks in great order. He slipped over half a mile in 49 3-ss. the first quarter in 24 1 -ss. Lord Cavendish will be hard to beat in his Feilding engagements if he reproduces his best form. Curtail and Gold Nut went seven furlongs together in 1.35£. Curtail is a nice mover and has pace, but has disappointed to date. He might make amends shortly. • j e s Gold Nu. in good shape and intends giving him a run in the hack distance events at Feilding. All Bunsby was sore after racing at Levm, where he stumbled, losing his rider the first day. Pe £° e continues to train on w ell and the Kiosk gelding will be one of the hardest to beat in the chief event at r ending. Ringcraft has been working in his usual dashing style, and if he does it right on Saturday he will be handy at the finish of the hack six at Feilding. Lord Cavendish was schooled over four hurdles the other day and jumped well. It is intended to try him at hurdling later
One of the most promising apprentices seen out for a long time is N. Toki, who is attached to H. W. Scally's stable. He Is ?i}ly 13i years of age and scales 5J stone. With a perfect seat and pair of hands, he has shown ability in getting his mounts from the barrier and good judgment in handling them. Young Toki should go far if he looks after himself, and already has attracted the notice of several prominent owners and trainers.
