Leaving Kuibyshev in thick snow the plane reached Astrakhan on the first night and Baku on the second night. it was weather-bound at Baku for three days. Sir Walter Monckton paid a warm tribute to the efficiency of the Russian pilots. Also aboard the plane were M Maxim Litvinoft, new Russian Ambassador to the United States Mr. Laurence Steinhardt, American Ambassador to Russia, and several leading journalists.
