BRAZEN BOLD

Has Smart Win In Te Rapa Sprint

SILVER MIST AGAIN

Brazen Bold, who was beaten a head by Kindergarten in the A.R.C. Easter Handicap in April, returned to form with a brilliant win in the Kirikiriroa Handicap at Te Rapa yesterday. He beat Harmony by a length, with Merry Vaals a head away third.

Brazen Bold, who is a Railway Handicap candidate, was several lengths behind the pacemakers racing to the home turn, but once F. Cleaver asked him for his best effort the five-year-old quickly challenged the leaders in the straight. He won going away. Chary, who was fourth in the sprint won by Cold Money Song on the opening day, occupied a similar position, and Prince Plato did best of the others. Big Steeple Dividend Forest Glen caused a major upset when he beat the favourite. Dauber, and Wharemanea in the Clarkin Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase. Forest Glen was a despised outsider and returned his backers a dividend of more than a century and a half. There was no fluke about the win. as Forest Glen soundly defeated his rivals. He had four lengths to spare from Dauber at the judge. Dauber was well back in the early stages, but moved through on the inside in the last circuit and was always a place possibility in the last half-mile. Wharemanea, who had been runner-up to Very Glad in the Matangi Hurdles earlier in the day, was a creditable third. British Sovereign did best of the unplaced division. Surpeen came to grief at the third fence when in the lead, llonny Gaze ran off when leading the field five furlongs from home and Chiltern and Gar Vaals toppled over.

Town Survey Scores Town Survey Rave hurdle jockev J. Winder his fourth success at the fixture when he beat Foxlore and Kanui Te Pai in the Waikato Hack Cup. Town Survey finished with a smart run on the inside and although hotly challenged in the closing stages by Foxlore retained his lead to win by a head. Kanui Te Pai was only a neck away, with Rich Blood and First Edition nearest of the others. Silver Mist was a strong favourite for the Tauwhare Hack Handicap and won easily from Betterman and Stvlishman. Silver Mist now has the remarkably good record of three wins in three starts. Last month she won easily at Poverty Bay and on Saturday was untroubled to beat the Taupiri Hack Handicap field. Silver Mist, who is by Kindergarten's sire, Kincardine, is undoubtedly one of the most promising hacks in commission. She is strongly built and has undoubted pace, which she again demonstrated in yesterday's race. She shot to the front at barrier rise and although Betterman and Stylishman got fairly close to her towards the end it was only on sufferance. Silver Mist won by half a length, but her margin could have been lengths. Betterman finished solidly on the rails into second place and Stylishman just defeated | Kinvara for third place. Kinvara looked >a distinct possibility at the top of the I straight, but tired in the last half-furlong.

The attendance was large, and the totalisator handled £35,628 10/, compared with £33,457 on the second day last year, an increase of £2171 10/. The investments for the meeting were £90,732, against £82,056 last year, an increase of £8676. Late results were:—
