COMRADE—TODAY
(Lines written on the entry ol Russia into the war.) Comrade, to-day wc stand on common ground: Forgotten the trivial things of yesterday; My race 'or creed has ceascd to matter ?wiv. Your trend of thoughts lie "barriers burned aic'ay." If in the past no bond of brotherhood Lightened our sphere with mutual sympathy, , Wc think as one to-day; and. side by side Fight for our country's priceless liberty. I sec you now as for the first time here; Caught in the flaming holocaust of war, You do not flinch nor falter in dread fear; Why have I never noticed you before. Was it because that, in the heedless past I cared but naught for others' hopes and fears; Seekitig no felloicship, thus passed you by? Comrade, forgive; I ask midst blood and tears. And as . the storm clouds gather siciftly now, -4s He so wills it, this may prove the end; Give me your hand. 0 comrade, just this once, Thus, if one falls, the other mourns a friend. —Mavis E. Hills.
