AMATEUR PRELIMINARIES SHOULD BE ATTRACTIVE

The Auckland Boxing Association has arranged an attractive programme for next Monday night. After being postponed because of mishaps to both, a bout has been arranged between the lightweights, Clarrie Gordon and Ernie Underwood. Gordon is unbeaten in his professional career of four fights, three of them this season, while Underwood, in his first professional season, had a string of victories in Australia during the winter. The amateur preliminaries will feature some of the outstanding performers at the recent championships. J. Jenkins and E. Black, who met twice and won a title each, have been matched again in a six-rounder for the Bridgens Cup. The other bouts are W. W. Withey v. R. Brown, H. Denton v. G. Crawford and C. W. Brown v. R. McCamish.

The association has been fortunate in the number of trophies donated for amateur competition, and at the monthly meeting last evening the Gallipoli Association presented a handsome cup and belt for annual competition, the belt to remain the property of the winner, the cup to be competed for annually. A cup donated by Messrs. Wells and Brennan was to the feather-weight division in Vhe junior section of the Auck-' land amateur championships. A cheque for tiie sum of £5 5/ was forwarded by Mr. J. H. Kinnear. one of the vicepresidents, and it will be used for future amateur contests held either at the Town Hall or in the suburbs.

The matter of the supply of Auckland championship blazers was left in the hands of the president and secretary. The following were elected members of the association:—Messrs. H. Williams, G. Wilkinson, C. F. Wren. Donations from the following were acknowledged, the trophies to be used for amateur competitions: Miss Moir, Messrs. W. T. Leggett, S. W. SmiUh, R. Buchanan, G. Forsvthe, C. H. Drysdale, R. Pearson, C. Nicholson, E. V. Sutherland.
