HIGH-PRICED MARE

SOLD FOR 14,000 GUINEAS LONDON, October 7. At the Newmarket bloodstock sales to-day the 11-year-old brood mare Carpet Slipper was sold for 14,000 guineas. She is to go to the Brownston Stud in Ireland.

TWO STARTS—TWO WINS

With two wins in as many starts this season Brandon Hall will make a strong appeal when he steps out in the Hunters' Steeplechase. At the Pakuranga Hunt meeting he woi* the Greenmount Hunt Steeplechase, but that race dkl not give a line as to his ability because erf the eight starters six fell, and Brandon Hall beat Te Kapia by 100 yards. However, later in the afternoon. Brandon Hall came out again and won the Ladies' Bracelet, a mile and a quarter flat race. He is in the Hunters' Steeplechase with only 61b above the minimum, and it does not look easy to select one to beat him.
