PATRIOTIC CONCERT

TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS Under the nuepieeg of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, student* of the Auckland Teachers' Training College presented a particularly fine programme of instrumental and vocal itoms in the Town Hall. Given under the direction of Mr. H. C Lusconibe, lecturer in music at the college, the performances reached a high *l;:ndard of merit, while the works presented were well-chosen. The vocal side of the entertainment included massed iteme by a choir of over 400 voices, mostly sopranos, part songs by special choirs, and Dunhill's cantata. "Tubal Cain." piven by the Music Club and orchestra. The instrumental section was particularly interesting. The orchestra played an orchestral arrangement by Mr. H. C. Lu.«combe of Cesar Fra nek's "Piece Heroique," the third movement of Bach's "Brandenburß" concerto No. 2, and, with Miss June Taylor, a most promising young 'cellist. St. Saens' Concerto in A Minor. The first movement of Schimiann's Pianoforte Concerto in A Minor was brilliantly played by Miss Dorothea Franehi, with Mr. Lnseombe providing the orchestral portion on the organ.
