STUDENTS APPEAL
TERRITORIAL, SERVICE Stating that he believed war to be' contrary to the teachings of Christ, 1 Allan Lloyd Odell, aged 19, university student, appealed against territorial service before the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday afternoon. He said he was a member of the Christian Pacifist Society, and although he had joined since the outbreak he had tried to do so previously, but was prevented by his age. Appellant's father, the Rev. H. J. Odell, said he did not agree with his son's views, and had served as a combatant in the last war, but he vouched for his son's sincerity. Dr. L. H. Briggs, who also disagreed with appellant's opinions, said he believed the boy to be sincere. The appeal was dismissed. An appeal, supported by the Director of National Service, for Patrick Vincent Wren, labourer, on the grounds of undue hardship, was formally dismissed, and an order made that he should not be called before December 1.
