Although It had been stated earlier in the season that there would be no games for the Seddon Shield tins season, the first challenge match was actually played at Rugby Park, Greymouth, last. Saturday, between West Coast (holder) and Marlborough. The visitors scored the opening try, but Coast led 6—3 at the interval and went on to win 13—9.
