ANCIENT FIXTURE

Survivors of 1883 Rugby Match - The Christ's College first fifteen beat Otago High School 16—3, in the 56th annual game, played at Christchurch last Monday. This fixture ■which has been played since 1883, is the second oldest in secondary school football, and only Wellington College and Nelson College have played longer. A thousand spectators watched the ' first match, which wds won by , Christ's College on the Caledonian Ground, Dunedin, on August 27, I 1883. The score was 2 points to 0, a ' trv being scored for Christ's College Iby A H. Rowley. A try counted only 2 points in those days. Only four members of the original Christ's College team survive. They are Mr. E. R. Webb, bursar of Christ's College for many years Mr. F. J. Hamilton, of Redcliffs, Mr. R. F. Cook of West Australia, and Mr. W. S. Fisher, of Auckland.
