FORM OF SUMMONS
THREE SUCCESSES ON END
I The victory of Summons in the Rangitikei Hunt Cup on Saturday made hi.s I third win on end in as many starts tins ' season. Hi.s first success was in the Dan-nevji-kc Hunt Cup in June, and the following month at the Hawke's Bay meeting he took the Harold Russell Memorial Steeplechase. He is an aged gelding by Sky Blue from Battle Eve, and is trained by his owner, Mr. G. l>. Beatson. WELL BEATEN The Winter cup candidates Xoble Fox, Augment, Royal Star 11., Autolite and Little Robin all failed in the Riddifbrd Handicap at Marton, not one of them tilling a place. That form is not likely io bring them into favour for the Riccarton event next month, although the different scale of weights might bring about a reversal of the Marton form. IN LIGHT WORK That good galloper Royevrus is doing light exercise at Cambridge, but his trainer, W. Townsend, is not very confident of the son of Surveyor standing a severe preparation. PROMISING GALLOPER Darag, who scored an easy win in the second division of the Glenmore Maiden at Marton. is a rising four-year-old by Buliindshar from Thornproof. At his previous start Darag ran a good race to finish third in a maiden race at Hastings on July j>. He is trained by J. M. Cameron, who has had some fine gallopevs through his hands, notably The Hawk and Hunting Cry. A POOR CONTEST Although Golden Glow won the Teschemaker Hunt Cup at Tiniaru on Saturday the performance is not likely to him info great favour for the Grand National Steeplechase at JRiccartou, in which he ie weighted at the minimum, 9.0. On Saturday he carried 10.3. and was opposed by only two horses. Surcoat and Dropped Catch! The latter lost 'his rider at the first , fence and Golden Glow had little difficulty in defeating Surcoat, who is also in the National at 9.8. HASTEN WELL-NAMED The Colossus gelding Hasten was responsible for a fine performance when he downed a strong tield in the Riddiford Handicap at, Marton on Saturday. Halfway Chrough the race he was near the rear of the field and standing the leaders up a big start. He then commenced a forward move and sustained a long run to juet pet up and win. A month ago lie carried 9.1 and won the Greenfield Hack Cup at Danncvirke. SALE OF YOUNG SIRE Taper Slipper, who was purchased 12 months ago by Messrs. Raines and Piddington, of Timaru, has been sold to Air. W Gentlemun, of Timaru. Last season some good mares were mated with the young Paper Money horse, including Char- ; maine. Water Power. High Rank, Win-, some Hind. Sea Raid. Sailor s Quest and Madge's Tray. GOOD FAMILY i Mansura, surprise winner of the Closeliurn Hack Handicap at Marton on Satur- : dav carries the same colours as Majority r.vs'd' like the latter, is an inmate of A. Jenkins' stable at Opaki. He has been rather disappointing to date, but Mansura is well bred, being by the ScherzoNoblesse Oblige horse Bambury from March, dam of Te Kara (dual Auckland Cup winner). Queen March, Royal March (dam of Royal Appellant), and Marchette (dam of Ever England). CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP The rising three-year-old colt Willow Wood, by "Cricket Bat from Winsome Hind, has' been sold by the trustees of teir Charles Clifford's estate to W. J. Musson of Christchurch, and has entered R- Wilson's stable at Riccarton. Willow Wood showed a good deal of promise in his races this season and is likely to develop into a good winner next term. FOR RICCARTON Although the majority of T. R. George's active brigade are at Carterton. Treneh Law and Ruling Star, who were left at Trentham. will go south for the Grand National meeting. The former, who is in the Winter Cup, has been going along '"' ; " his preparation.
