ABANDONED
BUDGET DEBATE OPPOSITION STAND PARTY WRANGLING ECHO (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) "WELLINGTON, this day. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holland, made the following statement in the House of Representatives this afternoon: "The Opposition having given full consideration to the Budget debate, so far as it has proceeded, and its effect upon the country, believes that the national interests will be best served by abandoning it for the following reasons:—
(1) That the war situation, particularly as it affects New Zealand and the Pacific, has become too great to permit of party wrangling.
(2) That the speeches which were delivered in this Chamber last evenin? cannot serve any useful purpose and fall far short of what people have a right to expect of Parliament in these critical hours.
