A GOOD STAKE-EARNER Dueky Sound, second to Marlene in the Xew Zealand Trotting Cup, has easily been the most successful of Happy Voyages progeny to race thie season, having won £1725. In his first three starts at the last August meeting at Addington he was second and followed up with two successes. Then came hie tine effort in the Xew Zealand Cup, in which he was beaten by a head by Marlene. Before that race he met with an accident which retarded his training, but even then went under by the narrowest of margins. The effort told on him and he loet form, nnd it was not until the Kaster meeting that he showed signs of returning to form. He deadheated with Navy Blue at Addington at Easter, but in his last three starts he hae finished out of a place.

REMARKABLE IMPROVEMENT The diminutive trotter Allie Audubon. by Maxegin from Nellie Audubon, made remarkable improvement this season. She commenced on 3.49 and 5.7, and as the result of eight firsts and five placinge in 26 starts is now assessed at 3.28 and 4.39. For her inches Allie Audubon, who earned £U4ti in stakes, is one of the best trotters the Dominical has produced. Nellie Audubon wag got by Great Aiulubon—Penelope, by Rothschild—CSeorgina, by Lincoln Yet — Leeline, by Rhodes Peer—Young Georgina, by Young Sir Charles from the thoroughbred mare Georgina. Young Sir Charles was got by Gratis, a thoroughbred horse foaled in England in 1829 and imported to Australia in 1835.

MARKS OF PACING POWER The champion two-year-old of the season, Pacing Power, will commence the coining term on 2.52, 3.28 and 4.40, which are difficult marks for a three-year-old, but he will have plenty of opportunities to pay hie way in classic races. Pacing Power, who is a full-brother to Horse Power, by Jack Potts from Free Advice, hae won three of his four races to date.

CONSISTENCY One of the most consistent of the good performers during the last few seasons has been Plutus, who, during the present racing year, won £1010. Plutus is only nine years old and though his opportunities are restricted he ie pot past his usefulness as a racing proposition. He is in regular work in view of engagements at Addington next month. GREAT DIVIDE M. C. McTigue does not race a big team, but there are lew trainers who can show a better avei'age. eays a Christchurch writer. In Great Divide, with £1745, he has the fourth highest winner of the season. While C. S. Donald has narrowly beaten M. Stewart for the number of racewinnere trained, few stables have won more than R. B. Berry's, of Yaldhurst. He produced the champion two-year-old, Pacing Power, £1375. while other members of his team in Sandusky. £1270, Huguenot, £1148, and Kilrea, £960 10/, have been useful contributors.

ON THE IMPROVE M. Holmes, who was involved in a serious accident a few months ago. is making a good recovery, and is supervising the work of his very useful team. His best winners during the season were Navy Blue, £1685, and Gerfalcon, £1145, Pot Luck, the recognised champion of the stable, won £420; but, one of the hardest handicapped horses racing, he has not been given many opportunities of late. SOUTHERN CHIEF Southern Chief has done little racing this season, and, in six starts, two thirds were his portion. At times he has displayed mulishnces in his efforts on the race track, and in future he will race as a gelding. When in the humour he ie known, as a brilliant pacer, and he has only to be consistent to win more good races. Owned by Miss J. Cuff, Southern Chief is trained by R. J. Humphreys.
