LENDING A HAND
GIRL GUIDES' EFFORT During the past six months girl guides throughout the Dominion have been able to send through their Dominion headquarters further gifts of warm clothing to children in bombed areas in England. Nearly 1000 garments, all made of new materials, and comprising every type of clothing for girls and boys of all ages, together with 200 peggy square blankets have been dispatched. The money to buy the materials and wool has been earned in various ways by guides throughout the country—some have collected and sold waste scrap metal, others have had "penny evenings" or earned money by doing household or garden odd jobs. Another district borrowed a piece of land, cleared and planted onions and potatoes, and from the sale of the harvest cleared over £20 for the same purpose.
Woollen comforts, tins of cakes and sweets have also been sent to the Mission to Seamen for distribution to the men of the Merchant Service.
