QUEEN CROWNED

PATRIOTIC BALL

SPECTACLE IX TOWN HALL

A spectacular patriotic ball at which a queen coronation took place was held in the Town Hall last night. This was a climax to the campaign conducted by the staff of M.K. Manufacturers, Limited, in aid of the Fighting Forces Fund. The successful queen was Miss Alma Clendon, while the live supporting queens also took part in the procession.

The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. J. A."C. Allum, and the Fighters Mother for Group 7, Mrs. M. J5. Turtill, were introduced by the group chairman. Mr. Horace Bull. In a brief speech, the Mayor congratulated the staff on their excellent effort, which had resulted in the sum of £2010 being raised. A fanfare of trumpets heralded the approach of the queen-elect and her retinue, who made a colourful picture as they proceeded up the hall to the stage. The coronation of the queen took place with traditional pomp and ceremony to the accompaniment of organ music, played by Mr. A. E. Wilson.

Music for the dancing was supplied by the Air Force Band, with the kind permission of the 0.C., R.N.Z.A.F. Base, Hobsonville. Credit is due to Miss Daphne Knight who trained the girls for the coronation ceremony. The ball was largely attended in spite of the bad weather.
