ASSISTANCE ASKED
DOMINION SHEEP FARMERS
BEHIND >.Z. WAR EFFORT 'P.A.I WELLINGTON, Wednesday.! The need for sheep farmers to receive the same measure of assist- ' ance in regard to the stabilisation of the costs of. production as has been ■ granted to other industries was advanced by Mr. H. D. Acland. presi- ' dent. in "addressing the Sheepowners' Federation Conference which opened to-day. He suggested that in view of the difficulties facing the : industry there should be some plan for the equalisation of meat returns or. alternatively, that the Government should purchase the meat output for the period of the war. | Tt would appeal - to be only reason-1 able, he said, to ask that the product. , I they had made available for export ! to Britain as part of the Dominion's war effort should be paid for in the ! same way that other army require- ! mems of all kinds had to be paid ' , for —that was at a price at least suffi- • i cient to cover the costs of production. . ■The finance required for this should !be a charge against the War : Expenses Account, as was the case ■ i with other war materials. j ! The importance of every section of ' the community pulling its weight in : the war effort was emphasised by i Mr. Acland in giving an assurance j that the sheep farmers would eonI tinue solidly with the Government in the effort.
