DOMINION SHEEPOWNERS
DECISIONS OF CONFERENCE
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Government is to be urged by the Sheepowners' Federation to continue its efforts to find a solution of the cause.of facial eczema.
A motion carried by the conference affirmed the necessity of an exhaustive investigation into the problem of deteriorating second ana thirdclass lands of difficult economic status immediately conditions allow.
On the ground that the full resources of the Dominion at present should be confined to the successful prosecution of the war, it was decided to oppose the proposed rivers control legislation. The Primary Production Council is to be asked to take such steps as may be possible by the alteration of holidays or the length of terms to make schoolboy and university student labour available at a time when it is most urgently required for farm operations. The principle that closer co-ordina-tion of primary producing organisations is essential was affirmed. It was suggested that this should be approximately along the lines suggested at the meeting of primary producers held in Wellington recently. The following committee was set up to meet representatives of the Farmers' Union and other organisations concerned and formulate proposals:—Mr. H. D. Ackland (president), Colonel N. P. Adams (Auckland), Messrs. J. Begg (Otago), G. A. Walsh (Auckland) and C. H. Williams (Gisborne).
