DiiJI.IMJS BY CITIZENS

( 0.C.) SYDNEY, July 16. The shocking murder by a native of a whiio wuman in New Guinea has led to the formation of Citizens' Associations there which are demanding measures against the natives that unfortunately savour of American repressive measures against negroes. On June 21 Miss Lillian Jean VVilson, 27, who had been employed by Burns, Philp at Wau for live months, was battered to death at the home of her sister and brother-in-law where she had been living YVhc-n the household was awakened by her screams she called out, Don t let the children see me. A boy has attacked me with an axe " She was dreadfully injured and died in Wau hospital next day. Detectives sent to New Guinea from Sydney but have been unable to track down the murderer. Citizens' Associations, formed at Wau and Morobe are demanding that picture shows should be closed to natives, that native taxidrivers should not be allowed to ?P^ t . e , af te r 6 p.m.. that all natives be in their compounds bv 8 p.m., and that sex offenders should oe punished by Hogging or hanging, p ; cforably in the a j strict where the crime'was committed."

In his funeral sermon the Rev. Mr. i sai - , Miss Wilson's death was the logical sequence of a series of native offences. These offences had grown from cheek arrogance, passive resistance and calculated irritation to threats and i murder by poisoning of adults and children.

tiSw? 1 ! < ? the l £ and the "Rabaul declared that the "parading of half-naked women in the streets" should be stopped. The attitude of the Government and white people to the natives should be overhauled The Times" also criticised "the eross immodesty in dress shown by some tourists."
