CRASH ON BEACH

PLANE DOWN AT PI HA In the course of training exercises an aeroplane from the Whenuapai air base crashed on the beach at Piha on Saturday afternoon. Very slight injuries were received by the two occupants, Pilot-Officer J. D. Bew and Leading Aircraftsman D. Gale. They were given casualty treatment at the air base hospital. The aeroplane was fairly extensively damaged and was removed to Whenuapai by an air force truck later in the afternoon.
