MEAT CANNING
PLANT ORDERED
"READY FOR THIS SEASON"
(0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Meat canning for export is likely to be a substantial factor in operations for the coming season. The necessity for the development of the canning industry has been stressed, and the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. J. G. Barclay, was asked to-day what progress had been made. The Minister stated that the machinery for the canning of primary products is on order from the United States at a cost of £40,000 and £50,000. Buildings for this industry are being constructed in association with export freezing works, which will cost in the region of £200,000.
"The Government is responsible for this expenditure," added the Minister, "and these facilities will be available in time for the coming export season."
