WORKS IN AUCKLAND

RAILWAYS, ELECTRICITY COURTHOUSE EXTENSIONS (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. In the Auckland district estimates £65.000 is provided for grade improvements and easements on the northern railway line from Mount Albert, and £182.000 for PapakuraHorotiu duplication.

Alterations to the Auckland Magistrate's Court are estimated to cost £1500, and there are small votes for works at the Auckland Prison buildings. Sums ranging from £100 to over £2000 are provided in respect of Auckland police stations, including Central, Freeman's Bay, Glen Eden, Mission Bay, Mount Eden, Ponsonby, St. Helier's Bay, Takapuna and Waiheke.

Other items of proposed expenditure on public buildings are £35,000 for additions and alterations to the Auckland post and telegraph buildings, £3500 for an automatic exchange at Mount Albert, £5000 for store and workshops additions at Newmarket, and £4050 for an automatic exchange at St. Helier's. There is also £1000 for Glen Eden and £4500 in respect of post and telegraph buildings at the Papakura military camp.

Sums totalling over £11.000 arc included for the Auckland Mental Hospital buildings, including the erection and provision of equipment, and similar votes for Kingseat total over £38,000, covering £24,000 on account of residences. Votes for St. Helens Hospital. Auckland, amount to £5350.

A total of £2,227,275 is allowed for North Island costs in the Electricitv Supply Account. The development of water power under the North Island scheme is estimated to cost £1,431,275, comprising £547,000 for new works and purchases of materials in connection with the Arapuni-Horahora works, £380,275 for the Mangahao-Waikaremoana works. £307,000 for Karapiro, £37,000 for Taupo. and £160,000 for the Waikaremoana lower development.

Working expenses and maintenance at Arapuni and Horahora are shown at £461,500. The provision for the King's wharf station is £34,500, and for the Mangahao-Waikare-moana scheme £300,000.
