IMPROVED CLIPPER

DUE AUCKLAND FRIDAY First of the new and improved Boeing flying-boats to visit New Zealand, the California Clipper, left America yesterday for Auckland, where she is due to arrive on Friday. The Clipper's departure was delayed for one day on account of the necessity for a mechanical overhaul. To the layman's eye the California Clipper will look the same as former Clippers which have visited Auckland. However, experience gained with the older Boeing flying-boats has led to important modifications. The gross weight of the new Boeings has been increased by 20001b. Fuel capacity has been increased I'rom 1200 to r>4oo gallons, and fornix') horse-power motors have been installed. These, together with the larger and improved propellers, give improved take-off, greater cruising economy, and an increased cruising speed of 10 m.p.h.

Passengers carried from America were:—Messrs. G. Scale. W. Fairbrother. R. McXaiißht 'from San Francisco); Messrs. \V. Brainard. A Mitchell. \Y. Powers. T. Nichol. H : Adams. Ft. Orr: Mr. H. Stuart. Mrs., G. Stuart and Miss F. Stuart (from I.os Angeles). i The California Clipper is expected to leave Auckland on her northward flight on Sunday, July 20.
