ART UNION DRAWN

PRIZE TO REMUERA

STOCK EXCHANGE EFFORT

Culminating point in several weeks' intensive effort, the art union organised by the Auckland Stock Exchange to aid the Fighters' Mother campaign was drawn this morning in the presence of the chairman and members, and representatives of the police and Press. Visitors included Mr. J. W. Heenan, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, and Mr. Hendry Luke, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. The prize, 100 Bank of New Zealand shares, donated by the exchange, was won by Mrs. Mabel Gladys Airey, 37, Clonbern Road, Remuera, the successful number being 13776. The sum of £1000 was raised, 20,000 tickets being sold.

The chairman of the stock exchange, Mr. J. W. Frater, thanked all members and their staffs for their work. He mentioned that the exchange had always set its face against share salesmen. However, members had proved that if necessary in a good cause they really could be share salesmen.

Mr. Heenan, in congratulating members, pointed out that they had produced the perfect example of an art union balance-sheet. There were no expenses, all the proceeds went to the patriotic funds, and the full quota of tickets had been sold.
