YACHTING PRIZE-GIVING

SIR R. CROSS ATTENDS

Praise for the facilities offered to train young yachtsmen was expressed by the new High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in ■Australia, Sir Ronald Cross, when presenting the prizes at the annual prize night of the Heine Bav Junior Yacht Club on Saturday. Sir Ronald .tressed the value of the work of yachtsmen in cases of emergency at sea in the present war.

Also at the gathering were the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. W Xash, the club patron. Sir Ernest Davis, the master of the Monterey Captain E. R. Johansen, and commodores of other clubs. They were welcomed by the club commodore Mr. G. M. Dennes. The commodore of the Ponsonbv Cruising Club Mr •T. J. Mackay, asked Sir" Ronald to hand over to the Heme Bay Yacht Club the Lipton Cup, which was won by the club's representative yacht Otira.

The 1041 Silver Fern class champion. Tapere. which, with all sails set. was on view during the prizegiving, won praise from Sir Ronald and Mr. Nash. At the conclusion of the presentation of prizes, Sir Ronald and the acting-Prime Minister, inspected the Richmond Yacht Club's new clubhouse.
