RICHMOND'S PRIZE-GIVING The Harbour Board's cabaret at Westhaven was well filled with members and visitors for the Richmond Yacht Club's 34th annual presentation of prizes on Thursday evening. The visitors included Mr. Hendry Luke, chairman, and Mr. Drummond Holderness, superintendent of the Harbour Board, and representatives of all local yacht clubs. The commodore, Mr. Colin Dennes, supported by Mr. R. A. Rew, president, Mr. R. Taylor, hon. secretary, and members of the committee, welcomed those present and reviewed the past season's activities. In spite of difficult times, they had kept the flag flying and from a small beginning their membership had increased to 500; 60 of these were serving overseas, a large proportion being in His Majesty s navy, where their vachting experience was proving useful. Mr. Dennes thanked all who had assisted during the year, and especially the j Harbour Board, which had provided the new clubhouse and other facilities for yachtsmen. He concluded by requesting Mr. Luke to made the presentations. Mr. Luke said the club was to be commended for carrying on so successfully under present conditions and for their appreciation of what the board had provided. The principal winners were - Komuri, points cup in L classMarika. Sayers Cup, Mr. C. Edmonds'' trophy and championship flat* in L ind N class; Mania, championship flag in Y class and the Laidiaw CupMercedes, Logan Memorial and championship flag for M class; Mawhiti Mr. Norman Wade's trophy; Matara championship flag in V class; Tama-

hini, Belve Cup; Escapade, Carbines' Cup; Invader, championship flag in T class; Vamp, Collinson Cup; Caress, points cup, championship flag in X class, Holdsworth Memorial: Demon, Mr. W. Heerdegen's trophy; Leoma, Renner Cup; Water Beetle, championship flag in Z class; Tamaki, Eoints cup in Z class; Zonda, Mr. ennes' cup; Careless, Mr. J. Longbottom's trophy; Tapere, championship flag in Silver Fern class; Ranger, Walker and Hall Cup; Pal, Frankham Shield for winter sailing. | Mr. Rew, on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Wass, presented a handsome cup to be known as the Wass Memorial. Their son Peter was a member of the club and owner of the X class Endeavour. He was one of the first to volunteer for the naval reserve. He was trained at Portsmouth and later drafted to H.M. Trawler Oswaldin, which was destroyed by a mine and he lost his life. The cup was won by Mr. W. Rogers' X class' Caress. In all cases where minia-i tures were usually given they were replaced with neat plaques of polished oak surmounted with models] of yachts, with the winner's name engraved on it.
