Zeal And Determination Of NZ Pilots D.F.C. FOR TWO OFFICERS Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON, May 20. The citations have been issued regarding the award of th« D.F.C". to Flight-Lieutenant W.. S. Rea Paengaroa. and Flying-Officer A. A. Gawith, of Masterton.
The former, it is stated, since the outbreak of war has flown a considerate number of hours dav and nipht under all conditions of weather and is a most able flving boat captain. carrying out his allotted tasks with resource and skilL He set an excellent example.
Flying-Officer Gawith has been employed with a squadron since last April and since the outbreak has carried out numerous operational flights, including convoy escorts, often in bad weather. On other occasions he has carried out attacks on aerodrome buildings, bombing from a low altitude in the face of heavy ground lire. Throughout he has displayed great zeal and determination.
