NAVAL CHASE IN ARCTIC CIRCLE
DENMARK STRAIT Admiralty Announces Hit On Bismarck Rec. noon. LO.VDON". this day. The Oslo radio stated that a German squadron, including the Bismarck. is now fighting "a superior British squadron in Denmark Strait, between Iceland and Greenland. It was announced t>v the Admiralty last night that a torpedo bomber of the Fleet Air Arm scored a hit on the damaged German battleship Bismarck.
Since the action off the Greenland coast, when H.M.S. Hood was sunk, the pursuit of the fleeing German ships has never been relaxed, and it continues.
"Some of Britain's most powerful warships are believed to be pursuing in the North Atlantic, the German squadron which sank the Hood. Our chances of engaging the enemy are considered exceptional!v good, savs the "Daily Express" naval correspondent. "There is .almost continuous daylight in the North Atlantic now.
'As it is feared that few. if anv of the Hood's complement survived, two towns in England are in mourning. What is variouslv called a heavy calamity and a painful blow has brought more tragedy among the homes of blitzed Plymouth and Ifcjrtsmouth."
