TO-DAY'S TROTS
TWEEDS POPULAR COLOURFUL PLAIDS WORN Perfect weather, crisp and clear and sunny, contributed to a successful opening of the Auckland Trotting Club's winter meeting, held at Alexandra Park to-day. The cold snap in the air resulted in tweeds predominating in the fashion picture, and very colourful and gay they were. All shades were seen, merrily mixed tip, and as for the checks and plaids—the bigger the better seemed to be the motto.
The cheerful and warm swagger was very much in evidence, and tailored suits and sweaters were popular. Felt hats, often with lons quills shooting out, were worn with them.
A number of all-black ensembles or black with touches of white were seen, these being particularly smart with off-the-face hats. One or two black suits, severely tailored and finished with braid, caught many an admiring eye. The prevalence of flowers, worn on coat lapels and at necklines, was also noticed.
