LAST WAR COiMPARISON
(0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Compared with the last war, an earlier call to service is coming to , married men. Although New Zea- " land has not adopted Britain's method of disregarding family responsibilities, by calling up men solely according to age groups, the classification of the second division in New Zealand will follow precedent in placing married men without children in the first category, and allocating further classes according to the number of children. The first ballot for married men in the Great War did not take place until the end of October, 1917, which was three years and two months after the outbreak of war. The principal reason for the accelerated demand in the present war is that, unlike the last war, New Zealand must provide adequately for the possibility of active service in home defence, while rapid expansion of the air force is another important factor.
