BOOT OPERATIVES

L/t vision has been given by the Arbitration Court in a claim by the inspector of awards for penalties for alleged breach of the boot operatives' award by G. A. Coles and Company. Tho allegation was that four female workers put off on a Wednesday were told to return after 3 p.m. next day to collect their pay and that they should have been paid on termination of the engagement on Wednesday, or, if brought back the next day, should have been given work (or pay) for three more hours on that day. The Court agreed with the inspector a interpretation that the workers should have been paid on the day they were put off, and if required to return on another day for their pay nau to be given, or paid, three hours' e:;tra work. A penalty of £1 was imposed.
