ROPE WORKERS' AWARD

WAGES AND HOURS FIXED Matters relating to hours of work in connection with the employment of on Saturday mornings, wages of adult male workers, wages and scales for females and youths and other conditions are outlined in an award written by the Arbitration Court for the Auckland Rope and Twine Workers' Union. The award comes into operation on- Monday. Hours of work are fixed at eight per day and a week's paid holiday is allowed for " each full year of service. A clause in the previous award which gave the employer the right to employ storemen on Saturday mornings, and which had been in dispute, was deleted on account of the doubt which existed as to whether the membership rule of'the union was sufficiently wide in its scope to cover storemen. Wages for male workers range from £4 10/ to £5 10/ weekly, for females from 17/6 to a minimum of £2 10/ after the age of 21, and for boys and youths from 20/ to £3 10/. All wages are subject to the additional 5 per cent of living increase. The minimum , rate for casual workers is fixed at 2/4 per hour and a casual worker is defined as one who is employed for less than one week.
