coterie of Thespians could possibly have desired a more fitting acknowledgment of its captivating qualities than that accorded the J. C. Williamson Gilbert aud Sullivan Company at His Majesty's Theatre last night. The occasion was a farewell performance, after a return visit. and When the curtain was raised aC 8 p.m. there was not a vacant seat in the ihouse. It was obvious from the outset that the vast audience wae present not only to be entertained by the imaginative and tuneful qualities of '"The Gondoliers," but also to demonstrate its appreciation of the efforts of the artiste. At the conclusion of the performance the audience joined the artists in singing "Aukl Lane Syne," the while they were linked together by innumerable streamers, and Mr. Ivan Menziee, the principal comedian, expressed the tiianks of the company for the splendid support received.. He then voiced the opinion that the Empire would assuredly triumph over the present critical challenge. AH that was necessary, lie said, wae sound home life, plus team work in industry and national unity.
