MORE TRAFFIC CONTROL?
Measures de>igncd to give the maximum of safety with the minimum of inconvenience to vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the conditions arising out of the operation of the reduced lighting scheme in Auckland have been formulated by the Mayor, Kir Ernest Davis, and were announced to-day.
Sir Ernest said that the city engineer had placed 20 men 011 tlie work of painting the curves or radii at all the intersections of the main traffic routes, and as soon as possible similar treatment would l>c given to the remaining intersections. The colours were black and white alternating, and were applied to the whole of the curve and 10ft 011 each side of it.
In addition, an order had been placed for 100 D reflector prism lights which would !>e erected at the principal intersection.-, these being considered the most effective means of indicating the crossings and giving an added safety.to all road users.
Linked up with this arrangement was the question of additional traffic control at night, added Sir Krnest. He had asked the superintendent of traffic. Mr. C. Bland, to prepare a special report on requirements at busy intersections and traffic points, ro that a decision could be made as to whether additional personnel would be required fur making the streets as safe as possible for the general public during the hours of darkness.
