ORDERED DRINKS.
BUT DIDN'T PAY.
HOW £5 WAS STOLEN.
Arrested by Detective Cromwell on a charge of stealing £5 on April 14, Onslow Clyde Bellringer, a farm labourer of 34, admitted the offence when lie was brought before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Police Court to-dav.
Detective-Sergeant Xalder said Bellringer came from the Waikato for the holidays. Yesterday, in a city hotel lounge, he made it appear that he was a person in authority. Bellringer was given £5 to purchase drinks by a man who was with a party in the lounge. He ordered the drinks and then left the hotel—with the £5 note. Later he was located by Detective Cromwell, when he had £5 16/ in his possession. In view of Bellringer's previous good character, the magistrate admitted him to probation for 12 months and ordered him to make restitution of the £5.
