A number of the latest type of l'uur-iMigincil Jiving fortress bombers have just reached Britain from the Inited .States. They are known officially as Boeing- BI7C and are the first deliveries to be received by the Ministry of Aircraft Production.

Despite their vast size, the flying fortresses have beaten all records in the Right across the Atlantic. These machine's will shortly be. flying alongside British and other types of United States tour-engincd bombers in service with the R.A.R

I he Boeing BI7C, which is a development ot tiic Boeing 8178, is a midwing iuouo])laiH\ with a speed of .'iOO miles an hour at lio.ooo feet. At a epeod of -20 miles an hour it has a range of —4.>)» miles.

Tt has four Wright Cyclone RIS2O engines, each of 1200 horse power, and carries a very heavy bomb load. The wing c-pan is 103 feet nine, inches, the length is (iS feet and the height 1 A Icet. l-.ach machine carries a crew of se\ en to nine.
