SEAMAN FINED.
TROUBLE OVER PASS.
ATTEMPT TO BOARD VESSEL.
Charged with a breach of the Shipping Safety Emergency Regulations by making a. false statement to Constable Whisker tliat a crew pass issued for an overseas ship at an Auckland wharf was his pass and that lie was a member of the crew, Thomas John McKcnna, a seaman, aged 42, pleaded not guilty when 'he appeared ill the Policc Court to-day. Sub-Inspector Pender said McKcnna was one of a number of seamen who were in a semi-drunken condition outside the wharf gates yesterday. McKcnna produced to the constable a pass for admission to the wharf, but later it was found that the liass did not 'belong to him and that McKenna was not a member of the crew of the ship.
McKenna told tbe magistrate that he had been put ashore from a, vet sol of the same line and had been in hospital. He added that lie had been informed he would proba-bly be placed aboard the steamer now in port and that he had merely tried to go on the ship yesterday to see some friends.
Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., imposed a fine of £5.
