ART UNION DRAWN.
CHILDREN'S PLAYHOUSE.
Six small boys and girls, selected from the audience by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, drew the winning marbles for the Modern Children*s Playhouse Art Union of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council in the Town Hall concert chamber this morning. The winning ticket was No. A 13099, under the name of Margaret Carmine, of 16.» a, Symonds Street, Auckland.
The drawing was directed by Mr. Neil McArthur, supervisor of patriotic art unions in the Auckland province, and the police were represented bv Sergeant W. R. Millar.
Speaking in hi*» capacity as chairman of the Provincial Council, Sir Ernest said that the yield from the sale of tickets exceeded £1800. the large pro|>ortion of which came from tickets by the Farmers' Trading Company, Ltd. Sir Krnest congratulated the company and its general manager. Mr. W. C'alder Mackay. on the fine result achieved. and expressed the council's appreciation of the unstinted assistance the company had given in the sale of tickets, the | free printing of publicity, and the exlii- j bitiou of the playhouse* He also paid : a compliment to the voluntary services given by Mr. McArthur and'his staff.' who throughout had been closely associated with the administrative side of J the art union. The Mayor said he had been greatly impressed by the prompt and careful manner in which the art union had been handle®. "Although there is only one winner," he added, ''I am sure that, those who are unsuccessful will not have envious feelings, but will recognise that their contributions have gone to the cause so close to our hearts—that of helping the members of our armed forces oversea®."
