TRAINING IN CAMPS.

2000 MEN CALLED.

MOBILISATION ON MAY 1.

Over 2000 men in the Northern Military District arc to l>e called up for three months' territorial training which is to begin on May 1. S-ome men will be jwisted to four new units which have been formed, and others are to l>e used as reinforcements and for bringing unitii|) to strength. It is understood that by far the largest number will be

required to make unit*. complete.

The camp* where the training is to be carried out have not yet been decided on, but it was stated at district headquarters to-day that it was most unlikely that Arawa Park, Kotorua, would be used for training purposes.

Brigadier P. H. Bell, D.5.0.. officer commanding the district, stated that an effort was being made to dispeuse with Ngaruawabia as a winter camp for troops who required more than a week or ton days' training. It wa* likely, however, that the camp would be need for special courses or for short emergency periods. At Papakura mobilisation camp it was not possible to accommodate troops other than those required for the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

Several New Units. ihc w.w \inits to undergo intensive training are the oth Composite Company and the Ist Reserve Motor Transport Company, both cf the Army Service Corp? , the Sth Field Ambulancc and the Ist Motorised Ambulance Convoy (Transport Wing), both of the Medical Corps. The Ist Field Hygiene Section and the Ist Motorised Ambulance Convoy (Medical Wing) ot the Medica! Corps, are now in training at Trenthain.

Except in the case of the new units and the first reinforcements of units, which have their owr officers and noncom missioned officers, the men will he trained by the permanent cadres of units.

For the first two weeks in the several camps the men will all be trained together. Then >11 the following fortnight they will be tentatively allotted to unite. At the completion of the first month's training the recruits are to be finally ported to units with which tliey fervc for the remaining two months.

Though most of the units in the Northern Field Force which completed their training on December 31 are oelow strength, no alteration has been made in the decision to carry out field exercises for the force from May 24 to
