COLTS IMPROVE.

Second Innings Two for 114— Taylor and Mills Reach The Forties.

Facing a deficit of 103 runs on the first innings, the Auckland colts fared much better in the second innings against the representative team at Eden Park this morning, and at the luncheon adjournment two wickets were down for 114 runs.

Taylor and W. N. Snedden (9) added 37 for the first wicket and Taylor carried on to take his total to 42 before falling leg before to Cleal in attempting a hook s'hot. His innings was marked by free cover driving and strong leg shots. H. S. Mills quickly ran into his stride, powerful and well-timed straight driving gaining most of his runs. At other times he placed well on the on side for singles and braces. Mills at 14 gave a chance to Cooper at second slip off C. Snedden. Mills (44 not out) and Sutcliffe (13 not out) were batting quite confidently at the adjournment. Weir, the Auckland captain, gave six bowlers a trial during the morning's play.
