EASTER RACING

SIR CAMERON.

WINS BIG HANDICAP

FOXSEN UNLUCKY.

BRIGHT IDEA'S HURDLES.

The weather was fine and there was a pretty fair attendance when the Auckland Racing Club commenced the concluding day of its autumn meeting to-day. The course was in fair order.

Ever England, who had already won twice ill his only two starts, was hacked as a certainty to win the Nelson Handicap, despite the fact that he was withdrawn from his engagement on Saturday in consequence of a slight injury. He was never prominent and ultimately finished ninth. The winner wae Volifox, who, after being a good way back in the early stages, ran into fourth position at the turn, and went on to win well., thus confirming her good form on the opening day, when she finished fourth. Most of the early running was made by Mysito, Landveyor and Radiant Yaals. The last-named turned for home first slightly ahead of Mysito, who was being hard ridden, while Volifox was moving up. Radiant Vaalfi was still in front halfway down tha straight, where Volifox asserted her superiority to win by three-quarters of a length from Esquire, who only flashed into the picture over the last half furlong. Radiant Vaals was the next further back, third, with Sealaw running on strongly a good fourth. Mysito ivanext and then came Don Qucx. From End to £nd. Cambria, who is fully related in blood to the good sprinter Bronwen. drew Xo. 1 at the barrier in the Victoria Handicap and he was first out and first home, winning eo impressively as to augur well for his future prospects. Cambria was followed for most of the way l>y Peter Douglas, June Tide, Hurra Sahib. Kaimanawa and 15abrow. The winner was two lengths clear when well in line for the judge, and although Panoni. Hogarth and 75alblair finished on

strongly they had no chance. Panoni beat Hogarth by a length for second place, with Balblair close up fourth, followed by River Plate, Babrow and Burra Saliib.

Favourite to the Fore. In a. weak field of hurdlers Bright Idea was the solidly-backed each-way favourite to win the St. Helier's. He duly achieved the objective of his supporters after being in front for twothirds of the distance, but when Rival headed him just before the last fence was reached it was thought for a moment that dcicat was imminent. However, carefully nursed by J. MrlJae. Bright Idea produced something from tli«_ reserve to come away again and achieve success by two lengths. Sehvyn. Kival. Devon. C'looneen and Whareniaiiea were closest to Bright Idea alon» the back, where Boy Lu'and Bellaghy wei e a long way back. 1 here was vorv I:ttle chanpe crossing the top and into t lie straight, except for the fleeting dash by Rival, but once over the last fence the favourite had the race well won. Wharemanea was third, but a wry tired horse, with Selwyn and Bov Lu following.

A Thrilling Finish. The principal handicap of the day, the H. O. Nolan Handicap, provided a till illing finish, half a head separating the placed horses, with two others not " K, ie than a length away. The winner, Sii Cameron, put up a most impressive performance, leading throughout the mile and a half, and lie jus-t lasted lon<* enough to beat the strong finishing Foxsen by half a head, with Wiklore, who had ibeen out in front with Sir Cameron from barrier rise, only half a head away. Homily ran a great race to finish foui tli, as ehe lost a bit of ground at the start and, with Erlick, was at the rear of the field for the first three furlongs. Homily then had to go right round the field, to be in third position at the six-furlong post. After that she was always in the picture and was right tip fourth at the judge. Foxsen was last but one six furlongs from home and had not improved her position much with half a mile to go. It was only from the head of the straight that she really ibegan to make up ground, and, if anything, she was a shade unlucky in just failing to win. Night Pilot was up fifth in the early part, but never reallv improved and was even further back at the finish. K&thbe , lla. had every chance, as did also Royal Appellant, 'but both were well, beaten, as was also Clinch. A surprise was the fine run of High. Delight, who finished fourth after bein~ last at the six-furlong post.
