RIGHTING ITSELF.

STOCK MARKET POSITION.

IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES

Naturally tanner* arc extremely pleased that the exporters; jiiv jji.tin able to operate with boner rows. The position, also as far as the pisr business is concerned, is gradually righting itself ami already exporters are hack in the leva rds. •wjth the result that prices before the holidays improved considerably. Most of the fat pigs coming forward realised full schedule rates and any choice quality medium-weight baeoners solid at even better than schedule rates. It is extremely unfortunate that farmers became alarmed and rushed such a number of unfinished pigs into the works, it being generally anticipated in a few months that bacon pigs will be extremely scarce and no doubt values will improve accordingly.

It is now realised what an important part the freezing works play in the stoc!: marke". for during last week when exporters were no* operating in boners, sales were extremely small and in some cases cattle were conspicuous by their absence. Naturally the taking of boner cattle has created a certain amount of confidence among farmers and this has been reflected in store cattle as well. At Frankton on Tuesday a line of East Const store calMe. although perhaps selling at slightly lower values than a month ago. realised satisfactory prices under the circumstances. The inq-iiry for heifer calves has also improved, but it is extremely difficult th:s reason to get. well-grown animals, rmd most of those offering apnear to be small and undersized, although with the quantity of feed available they should be in much better order.

In the sheep section business is now confiner! to store tombs and wethers, with an occasional line of breeding ewes. Prices generally have remained on a par with recent qtiotations.
