CLUBS AND SOCIETIES.

Overseas League.—At the opening of the drama circle, Mrs. V. Bos worth (con-vener-producer), presented an attractive programme consist of a one-act plav and readings of Dickens and Thackerav. Those taking part were: Mesdames V. Trimmer. IT. Schmidt, (i. Bullen. Misses Eileen Eraser, A. Argall and Mr. G. Bullen.

Counties' Association.—The Birmingham and Midland Counties* Association helcl their sixth birthday anniversary in the Fabian rooms. Mr." H. V. Hampton piesided, and the guests wore received by the vice-presidents, Mrs. \V. F. Bowes and ilr. J. Hijl. A large birthday cake was made by Mrs. \Y. K. firaham. Various competitions were enjoyed. An exhibition of ball-room dancing was given by Miss Lois 0 Council and Mr. Arthur Pell.

Community Sunshine.—The firstmeeting of the year of the Takapuna branch of the association took plaCe recently. Mrs. .1. C. Blomficld. president. presided. The afternoon took the form of a social. Mrs. Allen, president of the Community Sunshine Ladies' Auxiliary. Nelson Street. and Mrs. Winks, member of the hoard of directors, being the guests of the branch. Mis. .Mien ofFercd words of encouragement to the branch and expressed the belief that after the war the work of looking after little children would be more needed than ever. Mrs. Barton gave recitations and Mrs. fierrard played the piano. Mrs. Cook presented a competition.

United Women's Movement.— Mr-. !;. Wvnn was the speaker at the luncheon! her subject being "Wonipn, War and Peace." Woman, tlie giver of life, must abhor war, said Mrs. Wymi, but till means were found to bring woiiifn together for education and organisation little could l>e done to mitigate the burden. Co-operation among womcii's societies was needed to prepare for the task of leading the world away from war.

New Zealand Housewives.—The monthly meeting of the association was held in the Farmers' board room. Mrs. O. James. vice-president, presiding. Reports were given on the recent fish tribunal, the Milk Council meeting, and the conference between the Hon. P. Webb and the parties interested in the milk industry and city supply, including officers of the New Zealand Housewives* Association, representing the consumers. The following resolution was passed: "That Dominion produce not at present being exported should be made available to the public as cheaply as possible, to ensure its best possible use. As we will undoubtedly be heavily taxed to protect these vital industries,* we consider that all advantage should be given the people for the full use of these foods while the s.nplus lasts."
